About this work
Artificial intelligence is changing how cities move. While there has been plenty of discussion about AI technologies and their applications, it has been harder to see the bigger picture: where, when, how, why, and by whom AI is being adopted in urban transportation systems.
This project brings that picture into focus. It maps out:
- Where AI is being implemented geographically
- When adoption is taking place
- How AI is integrated (i.e., the use cases)
- Which transportation modes are involved
- Why AI is deployed (i.e., motivations)
- Who the key stakeholders driving change are
The map and dataset here are up to date as of the end of 2025. The goal is to update them regularly as time and capacity allow. Ultimately I envision this project as a living archive of AI adoption in urban mobility, a resource that can grow over time to track new deployments, shifting use cases, and broader trends.
